Examination

Next, we gently assess how your body moves and functions.

This includes checking your posture, balance and spinal function to identify areas of tension, restriction or imbalance that may be affecting how you feel.

No treatment is given at this stage.

We focus on clarity first, so your care is precise, personal and effective.

Oak Chiropractic – Frequently Asked Questions

What is chiropractic care?

Chiropractic is a hands-on healthcare approach that focuses on the spine, joints, muscles, and nervous system. By improving how your body moves and functions, chiropractic care aims to reduce pain, restore mobility, and support your overall wellbeing.

What conditions can chiropractic help with?

Chiropractic care is commonly used for:

  • Back and neck pain

  • Shoulder, hip, and joint discomfort

  • Headaches and migraines

  • Sciatica

  • Sports injuries

  • Postural issues

It may also help with issues linked to how your nervous system and body are functioning, such as tension, stress, and reduced mobility.

How does chiropractic affect the nervous system?

Your spine protects your nervous system, which controls and coordinates every function in your body. When joints in the spine aren’t moving properly, it can affect how your nervous system communicates.

Chiropractic care helps restore healthy movement in the spine, which may:

  • Improve communication between brain and body

  • Reduce physical stress and tension

  • Support better overall function and recovery

What happens during my first visit?

Your first appointment includes:

  • A detailed consultation and medical history

  • A physical examination

  • A clear explanation of your findings

  • A personalised treatment plan

If appropriate, treatment may begin on the same day.

Is chiropractic treatment safe?

Yes — chiropractic is generally safe when carried out by a qualified professional. All care is tailored to you, and your chiropractor will ensure treatment is appropriate for your condition.

Some people may experience mild, short-term soreness after treatment, similar to starting a new form of exercise.

Are your chiropractors qualified?

Yes. All chiropractors in the UK must complete extensive university-level training and be registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC).

This ensures they meet strict standards of safety, education, and professional care.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies depending on your condition, goals, and how your body responds to care.

Some patients feel improvement quickly, while others benefit from a structured plan that may include treatment, exercises, and lifestyle advice.

Can chiropractic care help with stress and tension?

Yes. Physical tension and stress often affect the body through the nervous system.

Chiropractic care can help:

  • Reduce muscle tension

  • Improve relaxation

  • Support your body’s ability to adapt to stress

Many patients report feeling more balanced and at ease following care.

Will my health insurance cover treatment?

Many private health insurance providers cover chiropractic care.

At Oak Chiropractic, we work with providers including:

  • AXA

  • Vitality

  • Aviva

  • And many cashback health insurers

We recommend checking your individual policy for details of your coverage.

Can I still have treatment if I’ve had surgery or ongoing conditions?

In many cases, yes. Your chiropractor will take a full medical history and adapt your care to suit your needs.

If chiropractic isn’t appropriate, you’ll be referred to the right healthcare professional.

Is chiropractic evidence-based?

Chiropractic care is supported by UK clinical guidelines for certain musculoskeletal conditions, particularly when combined with exercise, movement, and lifestyle advice.
